Under the direction of the Quality and Process Control Manager, this role will carry out essential quality department operations including conducting routine and non-routine quality testing, maintaining and calibrating lab equipment, and interacting with production.
This position also contributes to process problem solving as part of the technical team, with little or no direct supervision. The incumbent is responsible for the smooth operation of all lab activities and plays an active role in the implementation and maintenance of the WCM and ISO 9001 systems. The incumbent is also involved in experimental trials, collection and maintenance of retainer materials, and preparation and shipment of customer samples.
Performs routine daily quality testing including x-ray fluorescence chemical analysis (XRF), loss on ignition (LOI), particle size distribution analysis (PSD - both Camizer and laser diffraction), crush and specific gravity testing. Reviews production operator testing to ensure data accuracy and smooth plant operation. Troubleshoots as needed.
Conducts general lab management including equipment calibration (establish and carry out calibration procedures) and maintenance (diagnose and repair of software and mechanical problems). Ensures sustainment of a clean/organized work space. Manages lab inventory (track and order supplies as needed).
Handles special projects involving problem solving and improvements for equipment and process issues for resolution support as well as development work pertaining to potential new products.
Manages sample inventory and requests from current and potential customers for samples, possible process changes, and customer and external certifications.
High School diploma or equivalent required. Technical Associates degree in related area highly preferred.
Previous lab experience, preferably with experience in a manufacturing environment.
Basic PC skills – MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Effective verbal and written communication skills; Team Worker.
Self-motivated and directed. Able to work with limited supervision.
Capable of multi-tasking in order to complete required work.
Possess good attention to detail.
Mechanical skills required for upkeep of analytical equipment.
Capability to run tests and provide results in an organized manner through computer spreadsheets.
Able to plan and carry out complex requests for testing or product trials.
Ability to learn to operate mobile equipment such as forklift and boomlift.
